Sorry to post this here Dutchman, but I was trying to get in touch with you on the BG wiki. I have a question about some of the stuff that was done a handful of years back when there was a merge taking place between the Baldur's Gate wiki and (mentions of) a BG2 wiki. You can reach back to me there, if you have some time, thanks.
I am quite unfamilair with CSS, I know roughly what is does, but since I didn't do any study in computer sciences, my programming skill are rather basic (I can copy templates and modify them, but that's about it :) ).
The mouse cursor looks nice, but I have never seen a wikia with a custom mouse cursor and there are a lot things to do around, such customising the infoboxes. I saw your Infobox RNPC, we can probably use that for all the characters in Expeditions: Viking with a little tweaking. I don't think the height really matters and affiliation can be replaced by faction.
I have been working on Infobox item, it is probably good enough for weapons, shields and armor, but it might need some extra rows and a section for the items mady with tinkering and perhaps the major resources as well.
I'm for the most part just a copy-paster and modifier myself, but got to be familiar with some very basic template things through other people that helped me, anyway, well the cursor was just a small idea.
I'm glad you like my attempt at the new infobox, what exactly would you still want to tweak? And agreed, heigt seems useless and is never stated, as far as i remember, anywhere in the game for the characters. And yes, Faction sounds better than affiliation.
So if I understand this correctly, you intend to use the item infobox for weapons, shields and armor, instead of creating one for each? Depending on how much info you want to put in there, it will work nicely. If armor, shields and weapons have so much info/text you could put into infoboxes, I think creating separate ones (infobox weapon, infobox armor, etc.) might be better, which would make each one less crowded and easier to use (new users would first have to figure out how to use the one with the many entries first). What do you think?
I saw you did some changes to the Navbox with the characters, you could turn that navbox into a template, which makes it easier to implement in new pages and changes to the template would automatically update on the pages it is used on (instead of editing every page).
I sent a request for the achievements feature today and I believe we have them now, even though they said that it takes 2-3 business days to react. I still have to add custom pictures and titles to them though.
About the item infobox, a single infobox for all kind of items is what I am trying to create. Body armor has three rows, helmets four, but armour and helmets share two rows. Weapons need four (forgot melee range) and shields need three and every item needs one row for durability and one for the special property the item has from the artisan skill. Items made with the tinkering skill can probably use special to describe the effect of the item and thrown objects still need a row.
This one has about 20 rows, which is probably of average difficulty.
About the NPC infobox, you can add all four characters traits in a single row, and is being romancable important? There are only four characters who can be romanced and two characters the player character can have sex with one time only.
We can still add the area and location of the NPC to the infobox and the (starting) class. Perhaps we could add the voice actor for the few characters who have a few lines in the game to the infobox as well.
Well, I am satisfied with the infobox, so we should start adding that to all pages which are about characters.
I did forget to answer your question about the navbox. I am aware that it possible to make template for navboxes, but I haven't made a navbox template, despite that I have quite some experience with wikia's. And since I thought that a more simple navbox could serve, I just used the standard navbox.
I had to update them because the navbox used the redirect links of the characters instead of the normal internal link. I changed the title (and thus the link of all characters needs to be updated, unless you make a redirect link when you change the name of the page) of all characters, because they didn't have the sirname or the byname in the title when they were created.
It seems that something is wrong with Template:Infobox RNPC. The template can be placed on a page, but it can't be edited in visual mode. The only way to add the data is by typing all rows of the template adn then add the data.
You are right and I finally figured out why, it appears for some reason the infobox is not allowed to have a default image defined or this weird behaviour will appear. Tested it a few times now with default image and no default image and without default image it works normally. Weird reason for that strange behaviour, but now it should work correctly.
I tried to modify the infobox RNPC template so that it automatically added the category:Characters to the page, but that caused that issue again, so I reverted all changes I have made in the end. But I remade that template with a slightly different name Infobox NPC but without the explanation and an example. That template can have the category included without any issues. Should we replace the RNPC for the NPC infobox since the former one has some issues?
I have also submissioned this wiki for rpg-footer that is already on the main page. Hopefully we get added to the footer next friday to bring in some extra visitors. Compared to last week, this wikia got already twice as much visitors (15K) and for some reason, the WAM score and visitor counting system do not function, so the last three days are not even counted. But the game got a discount of 50% on Steam, so I wonder how many visitors we keep the next weeks.
I am considering to place Template:Home page video on the home page, but it doesn't look like the other things. What do you suggest?
Hm, I see. I removed the preview fromt the RNPC infobox and now it functions correctly with including the category and still being able to be edited.
Both infoboxes now work the same way, so replacing one doesn't make a difference, as that we can continue to use whichever one we want. Which one do you want to use from now on? At this point, only the name RNPC and NPC is the only difference between them.
15 000 sounds good, interesting how much this number will fall (or rise?) in a few days.
With the video template, I suggest removing the line/border and maybe the black bar behind the text, then it would fit better into the theme of the mainpage.
Well, the amount of page views has decreased to around 13k per week, but a link to this wikia has been added to the rpg footer. Maybe this will increase the amount of views to about 15k. Still, not a lot, but still a great improvement from 7K at the start of this month.
I have added the template to the home page with those things removed, but I am not satisfied with the result. It still looks different compared to the other elements on the page.
I did have a lot of spare time today, so I have made some adjustments to the item infobox for the tinkering / utility items and I made Barricade as a test. Let me know what you think.
The infobox and character build strategies look very good. More builds will likely show up with time by other members. Though I think maybe we should post in the steam thread about the wiki that it is now freely editable without account, maybe some people don't know yet, because they didn't read the text you wrote in community messages. Maybe would get some people here.
Game terminology also looks very good already, though I see what you mean, there's some empty letters there.
Hm, would removing the line between the text and the video make it fit better? Although then it pretty much is just a video and 2 words above it.
