Gaius Julius Caesar is a NPC who appears in Expeditions: Rome, arriving in Asia Minor on the same ship as the Legatus. He is a Sagittarius class character in combat and only joins the player character in the opening battle. Before the March on Mytilene, the player character has the opportunity to complete the unmarked quest Caesar's Journal.
Gaius Julius is the first to die in the ambush laid by the Mytileans in the mountain pass in the March on Mytilene quest, as he needs to make room for the role of the player character, who will replace him in the storyline.
Due to his important role in the history of the Roman empire, the normal difficulty is named after the triumvirate of that time period. The other two triumvirs are Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus and Marcus Licinius Crassus.
The third campaign has taken inspiriration from Gaius Julius Caesar's war treatise, Commentarii de Bello Gallica in the third game. Also, many names of the Praetorians are also mentioned in this book.
