The Capitán, or Captain, is the player character in Expeditions: Conquistador and commands an expeditionary force funded by the father of protagonist. But unlike followers, the player character can't enter combat or perform tasks, other than healing and does not consume rations. The main role of the player character is speaking to people and giving orders in combat from a safe distance.

The leadership skills depend on the choices made during character creation and and on the followers who join the expedition. Almost every class give +2 to a certain leadership skill
