Armour types and quality[]

There are five types of armour. Basic and light armour is available to all selectable Classes.

  • Basic, which is either civilian clothing or armor provides basic protection. These types of armour don't provide armour points and resistances to all five types, but usually one or two specific ones. Most armour of this type also offer health bonuses.
  • Light armour, which provides the least all resistances bonus at each rank, but for body armour only slows down movement by one point. It's the best armour for Sagittarii.
  • Medium armour provides a good compromise between defenses and movement restriction of minus -2. It's the best armour for Velites.
  • Strong armour provides high resistances and armour from rank I, but comes with a movement penalty of -3. It's the best armour for Gladiators and Triarii available.
  • Heavy armour provides the highest amount resistances and armour points at all ranks, usually with bonuses to armour cap and raising the standard maximum resistance from 50, to higher percentages, but the movement penalty of -4 for body armour halves the base movement points. This armour is solely for heavy units such as the Princeps, but they have the passive skill Nimble which decreases the movement penalty.

Quality and rank[]

Like weapons, armour is available in five qualities, worn, regular, good pristine and unique and follows the rank system of three ranks.

Armour points[]

Armour points are the sum of all armour points provided by equipment (body armour, helmet and Talisman), multiplied by some equipment (default multiplier is 1.00). The amount of armour is displayed in combat as yellow bars behind the healthbar. When they are greyed-out, the armour has been shredded and provides no longer protection.

How armour points works, is simple. In case the enemy can inflict 6-9 points of base damage (determine by the weapon) and the character has four armour points, damage will be reduced to 2-5 points of damage. In case the enemy is being able to shred two points of armour. the first hit will deal 2-5 points of damage. With the second hit, the amount of damage 4-7 points and its back to base damage with the third hit, when no armour points are remaining. In case the amount of armour points exceed damage, then no damage is inflicted.

Armour points does not have any effect on the chance of glancing blows, which is being determined by Resistances. See the page itself for more information about it.

Restoring armour points[]

In combat, there is for most classes no way to restore the armour rating they had before combat, when it gets lost. Only for the Principes, its possible to restore armour with the Brace Skills.

Breaking armour[]

Armour can be shredded the following ways:

  • Throwing Pila at your opponent. This will either brake two or three armour points (rank dependent) when they don't hit the shield.
  • Triarii with a staff or a pike are able to shred armour. This statistic is dominantly determined by the weapon.
